Space for Island Nations Conference 2023
Organised by the Maldives Space Research Organisation (MSRO), the very first edition of the Space for Island Nations Conference (SINC) will bring together international space companies, policymakers from island nations and NGOs alongside experts in climate science and environmental management.
The conference will address several themes including the Blue Ocean Economy, resilient communities and robust ecosystems, among others. GEO Blue Planet Executive Director, Dr. Emily Smail, will take part in the panel discussion on how can space technology such as satellite imagery can improve spatial planning and food security, that will take place on 2 May. On 4 May, GEO’s Climate Coordinator, Dr. Sara Venturini, will discuss Earth Observation solutions to risks posed by climate change to low-lying coastal locations around the world, during the panel discussion: Effective Space Policy for Island Nations – What should our priorities be in the face of growing space activities.
