The GEO Post-2025 Strategy marks a transformative shift in the Group on Earth Observations’ approach to tackling global challenges. Centered around the concept of Earth Intelligence, the strategy moves beyond simply providing access to Earth observation data, aiming instead to co-produce actionable insights that are user-driven, inclusive, and impactful. It emphasizes equity in access and representation, integration of emerging technologies like AI, and the inclusion of Indigenous knowledge and youth participation. Designed to address complex, interconnected issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and disaster resilience, the strategy calls for interdisciplinary and intergenerational collaboration. Through this renewed vision, GEO seeks to empower society with trusted Earth Intelligence to support informed decision-making and drive sustainable development

The GEO Work Programme (GWP) serves as the cornerstone for collaboration within the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) community, bringing together Members, Participating Organizations, Associates, and partners through joint initiatives that advance GEO’s Mission and Vision. In alignment with the GEO Post-2025 Strategy, the evolving GWP emphasizes transformative, user-driven approaches to co-produce Earth intelligence solutions that address complex global challenges. Moving beyond data access, GEO is now focused on developing integrated products and services that inform decision-making and empower society. This strategic shift calls for innovation, inclusivity, and impact—encouraging the adoption of new technologies, expanding global access to Earth intelligence, and fostering active youth engagement.

Under the GEO post-2025 strategy, GEO Blue Planet plays an important role as a convener, bringing together diverse stakeholders from science, policy, and society to co-design solutions for ocean and coastal sustainability. Conveners are central to GEO’s mission of delivering user-driven Earth Intelligence, acting as bridges between data providers and decision-makers.
By leveraging Ocean observation and prediction data, GEO Blue Planet fosters collaboration across sectors and regions, ensuring that information is not only scientifically robust but also actionable and policy relevant. As a convener, it facilitates dialogue between data providers, end users, and decision-makers, aligning efforts with global frameworks. Through its Working Groups and Regional Nodes, GEO Blue Planet supports inclusive engagement, capacity development, and the integration of ocean and coastal data into adaptation and resilience strategies. This convening role is central to GEO’s vision of delivering impact through user-driven, coordinated, and sustained Earth observation efforts.
